How to email a large file

Do you want to email a large file, let’s say over 10MB, (which is the limit for many free email services like Gmail)? Well, there is a way and it’s free.

There are actually many services that do this for free. Basically, you’re uploading the large file to their servers (computers), and then they will send a download link to that file to the recipient so they can download it. Just know that some of these services has time limits as to how long the file will be available for download before it’s deleted.

By far, the most popular of these services is www.yousendit.com. I have not used the service, but I know a lot of people use it. About.com actually did an article on it, and they listed 8 such services. However, they didn’t mention which one is the best.

So instead of testing them all, I did the next best thing. I did some research to see how much traffic (visitors) each website gets. I did my research at Alexa.com, which is a great place to find out how much traffic a website is getting. Below are the results. The number next to each service is the worldwide website traffic rank for each website. The lower the number, the better.

yousendit.com 1,042
pando.com 22,484
transferbigfiles.com 27,304
sendthisfile.com 33,119
mailbigfile.com 39,555
send6.com 247,421
tonsho.com 2,229,832
podmailing.com – link no longer valid 3,701,540

As you can see, yousendit.com is bar far the most popular. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the best. One of the others could be a better one, but it might be new, or it might not have as much marketing power behind it, etc. So, I would suggest you test some of them out and decide for yourself.
