Apple announces iPhone 3Gs

So, as you may have heard, the iPhone 3Gs has been announced, and it is exciting to say the least.  I will just briefly go over the features, and then if it interests you, you can go and watch the tour (see link below).

Here are some of the more notable new features of the NEW iPhone 3Gs:

1.  “S” is for Speed!

The “S” in “3Gs” is for speed; it’s at least 2X faster than the 3G

2.  Captures video (30 FPS)

Now you can record video with the iPhone and even edit it right on the iPhone right after you take the video

3.  Improved camera

– 3MP
– auto-focus,
– tap to focus (or to change the object that the camera is focusing on in the pic; resets the light balance as well)
– improved low-light sensitivity
– auto-macros
– videos show up in photo library and you can trim them, or share via email, MMS, YouTube, or MobileMe

4.  Voice Control

You hold down the home button for a few seconds in any app. Commands that you can say appear on the screen and start floating around. Say one of them and it executes the command. Examples: “Dial Steve Jobs”, “play the Lady GaGa”, “play more songs like this”, “what’s playing now,”, etc.  Very cool.

Other features:

– Built-in Digital Compass (incorporates the GPS as well; very cool!)
– Nike+ support.
– Hardware data encryption
– Improved battery life. 9 hours on WiFi, 10 hours watching video, 30 hours audio, 12 hours 2G talk, 5 hours 3G talk
– Greener materials, packaging

Prices:

Available on June 19th
3GS 16GB $199
3GS 32GB $299
The old 8GB 3G will continue to be available $99

This phone keeps on getting better and better.  Glad I waited to buy it!
